Weight and fat loss.
Weight loss can be the most frustrating goal to achieve, and then you have the added pressure of maintaining your ideal weight, but let us help you by giving your workout the shake up that it needs....
Alot of gym goers think the best way to lose weight is to do cardio, cardio and more cardio week in week out. But there is one weapon that needs to be added to your gym routine that can blitz your fat in half the time that cardio does.........Weights!!
Many women and men feel that if they were to do weights they would become a huge bodybuilder type figure so they avoid it at all cost, This is false and there is no way this could happen, it takes alot more than lifiting weights to become muscular. If it were true then the Earth would be populated by hugely muscular men and women, to gain muscle you would need to consume 4000 calories a day, I have a friend who eats 5000 calories a day and lifts heavy weights and he's still not huge.
Let me put it into a real perspective for those who like hard fact... I was helping a female the other day with her gym routine, She desperately wants to lose weight but is struggling with her slow progress, I suggested using the weight machines the gym has to offer, her reply was that she already did use them, So i asked her to show me her usual routine, and I wasn't supprised at what I saw, Yes she was using the weight machines but with such a little weight that I turned to her and.....try this instead, so i bumped up the weights on the machine so she could only manage 12-15 repititions for 3 sets, you could see the strain on her face and she began to sweat too, she then said to me ' I look stupid pullin funny faces' and then added 'I dont want to be muscley'. I laughed and said everyone is in the gym to workout not to judge others, And i reassured her that she wouldn't gain an inch of muscle from doing this. So she carried on and I told her what machines to use and when, and she also did her usual cardio routine. In this particular gym it has an eletronic tag that you insert into all the machine and it keeps record of your wrokout for the day, and at the end you insert it into a console and it tells you how many calories you have burned etc, So just before she inserted the tag i asked her how many calories do you burn doing your cardio workouts, in which she replied around 300 calories in a 1hour session, I then asked her how many do you think you have burned today? She said that she felt like she hadnt done much in this session cus she didn't do as much cardio.
I let her put her tag into the console and she had burnt 500 calories from weights alone, plus an additional 300 from the cardio. Her face lit up and she said oh my god, and I just smiled and said imagine if you did that every workout session!
Bearing in mind that the weights portion of her workout took up about 20minutes, 20 minutes to burn approx 500 calories, And thats not all your body carries on burning calories after you have done weights, so when you go home and sit on the couch your body is repairing your mucles and because of this uses more energy thus burning more calories, as an added bonus lifting weights speeds up your metabolism which means your increasing your fat burning potential.Simple.
So ladies and gentlemen what are you waiting for, use those weights and dont forget Please put them quite heavy don't be a whimp, you wont gain muscle, you will only tone your muscles while melting away your fat! So put a weight on that you can do about 12-15 reps, if you lift it up and think this is really light then your only cheatin yourself!!!!
